She rejected her son for being gay, now Kelli Anderson wants to oversee schoolchildren
Shane Anderson said his mother physically isolated him and verbally abused him after he came out as gay. Kelli Anderson, a member of the Queen Creek Unified School District Governing Board in Arizona, is running to retain her seat in the upcoming election. Despite being an incumbent, Kelli has never been elected to the governing board. She was appointed in 2025 by Maricopa County Superintendent Shelli Boggs, who bypassed three district-recommended candidates in favor of Kelli. Since joining the board, she has introduced a policy expanding oversight of classrooms and school library books, and supported the district’s adoption of a history curriculum backed by the Goldwater Institute. Shane Anderson, now 18, described his mother's treatment as “devastating” and said she called him a “f-ggot” after he came out as gay.
