Man Sentenced 11 Years for Otay Mesa Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Fatality

A driver who fatally struck a pedestrian as she was crossing an Otay Mesa road, then fled the scene, was sentenced this week to 11 years in state prison. Estevan Fabian Corona, 49, has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for fatally hitting 21-year-old Brescia Ayon on Otay Mesa Road in 2020. Ayon was crossing a crosswalk when the driver ran a red light and then fled the scene. Corona was arrested more than two years later at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. A GoFundMe page established around the time of Ayon's death stated that she was a former cheerleader for the Club Tijuana Xolos soccer team and studying child development at Southwestern College.

A driver who fatally struck a pedestrian as she was crossing an Otay Mesa road, then fled the scene, was sentenced this week to 11 years in state prison.

Estevan Fabian Corona, 49, was convicted of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for hitting 21-year-old Brescia Ayon with a vehicle on March 5, 2020, then leaving the scene.

San Diego police said Ayon was within a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Otay Mesa Road and Otay Mesa Center when she was struck at around 9:15 a.m. The driver who struck her ran a red light, then drove off.

Corona was arrested more than two years later at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

A GoFundMe page created around the time of her death states Ayon was a former cheerleader for the Club Tijuana Xolos soccer team and was studying child development at Southwestern College with aims of becoming a preschool teacher. Ayon was walking to work when she was killed, the page reads.
