Mesa County Libraries up for national award

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced that Mesa County Libraries is among 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has announced that Mesa County Libraries is among 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum & Library Service, the highest recognition given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. The only Colorado entity selected as a finalist for the award is Mesa County Library. The finalists list includes 15 libraries and 15 museums, with locations from Maine to California to Texas, and one from Puerto Rico. The winners will be announced in late May and representatives from winning institutions will be honored at a National Medals Ceremony in Washington, D.C. in July.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced that Mesa County Libraries is among 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

Mesa County Libraries is the only Colorado entity to be selected as a finalist for the award.

The finalists list has 15 libraries and 15 in museums, with locations ranging from Maine to California to Texas, and one from Puerto Rico. Thirteen different library locations and 12 museum locations are on the finalists list. The National Medal is the nation’s highest recognition given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. “Being named a finalist for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Medal places Mesa County Libraries programs and services on a national level,” said Mesa County Libraries Executive Director Michelle-Boisvenue-Fox. “We are very honored and proud of our staff, volunteers, and board who work tirelessly to create an environment that fosters community engagement and our continued mission of enriching lives and building community through opportunities to learn, discover, create and connect.” To celebrate being recognized as a finalists, IMLS is encouraging Mesa County Libraries community members to share stories, memories, pictures and videos on social media using the hashtags #ShareYourStory and #IMLSmedals, and engage with IMLS on X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook and Instagram.
