A manhunt is underway for a suspect accused of trying to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl in Mesa. Authorities released details of the harrowing incident, which took place on Feb. 3 near Sossaman Road and University Drive around 9 p.m. The assailant allegedly broke into an apartment, where he threatened the young girl with a knife and attempted to commit the assault, as reported by AZFamily.com.

The Phoenix Police Department has taken to social media to widely to disseminate a composite sketch of the suspect, urging anyone with information to come forward. The department's message, broadcasted via X on March 28, implores the community to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, a move that could potentially lead to an arrest and a reward of up to $1,000 for helpful tips.

Silent Witness has also provided a direct channel for Spanish speakers at 480-TESTIGO (480-837-8446) and has established a webpage at silentwitness.org for anonymous tips. Mesa Police have described the suspect as a Black male, estimated to be between 25 and 40 years old, standing around 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build, sporting a goatee-style beard, longer and thicker on the chin, and dark spiky hair. The suspect was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants, according to an account by 12 News.

In light of the incident and with the suspect still at large, the Mesa Police Department is advising residents to remain vigilant.
