Phoenix may take first step on Olympics torch’s path
Phoenix officials are scheduled today to consider the first official step toward preparing for the Olympics torch’s path through the city. Phoenix City Council is set to consider a contract authorizing the administration to participate in the 2028 Olympic Torch Relay and associated cauldron lighting community event in Los Angeles. This will be the first time in Olympic history that a cross-country torch relay will include every state. The contract will provide support for the events and a commitment of general government services at no cost to LA28. The relay will first be lit in Olympia, Greece, and then be transported directly to Atlanta in spring 2028 for a three-month coast-to-coast journey. The exact route for Phoenix and the rest of the nation is yet to be announced.
