Arizona Hail Could Mean a Month or Two of Roofing Work

Arizona roofing contractors report damaged shingles, tile and foam roofs as homeowners begin assessing the effects of two days of severe weather. Severe thunderstorms in the Phoenix metropolitan area have caused significant damage to roofs across the metro area due to hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. The storms hit different sections of the metro areas on Oct. 20-21, causing damage from Chandler and Mesa to North Phoenix and Deer Valley. Early modeling suggests that the storms could result in significant insurance losses, generating about 10,300 claims and $242.5 million in losses across Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and New Mexico, with roughly 136,000 structures potentially affected. The National Weather Service warned that hail and 60-mph winds could damage vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees. The most significant damage has been to shingles, clay tiles, and flat foam roofs. Jeff Gordun, vice president of delivery for Power Home Remodeling's Phoenix territory, anticipates an increase in homeowner inspection requests following the storms. The company has identified North Phoenix, Deer Valley as the areas of greatest concern.
