Democrats say Gov. Katie Hobbs has done more than U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs to help Arizonans with affordability, pointing to a program that wiped out $1 billion in medical debt for Arizonans. In the final stretch of the Arizona governor race, Democrats are praising Gov. Katie Hobbs' initiative to wipe out $1 billion in medical debt. Bryanna Hoover, a mother of two, joined two Democratic state lawmakers to praise the initiative. Hobbs used $10 million in leftover COVID relief funds and partnered with the national nonprofit Undue Medical to purchase more than $1 million in medical debts. Hoover said the program opened up more money in her family's budget and that families like her are not seeking a handout. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs has proposed phasing out the state income tax and reducing regulation and permitting to encourage business growth.
