Orchard Mesa deserves a future worth investing in
By TIM FOSTER and SARAH SHRADER Orchard Mesa, a growing community in Grand Junction, is being urged to consider a sales tax increase to rehabilitate and support the Orchard Mesa Community Pool. The proposed increase is 0.07% - seven cents on a $100 purchase, and 0.04% would expire once the rehabilitation costs are paid off, while the remaining 0.03% would continue to support the pool's operation. This comes after the pool was abandoned by Mesa County and School District 51, which provided a one-time contribution of $800,000 but the long-term responsibility for the aging facility remained unresolved. The proposal raises an important question about whether public investments keep pace with the needs of a growing population.
