Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, Arizona, has received over $1.7 million in federal grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for key improvements to the airport, including pavement improvements, a new taxiway, and ground collision warning technology. The grants were part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, with $519,298 from the Infrastructure Improvement and Jobs act, $300,000 from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, and $819,298 for reconstructing the west airport service road around the perimeter of the airport. An additional $823,243 was awarded to construct a new Taxiway on the northeast side of the airfield, which will connect taxiway D with existing parking infrastructure near runway 22L. The airport was also awarded $67,742 to expand surface-awareness technology, which uses GPS to monitor ground vehicles near runways and taxiways. The city will not be using the technology from Honeywell Aerospace, but will partner with a different company. The federal grants do not affect the landing fee program at Falcon Field.
