Ciudad Real: The Mesa For Climate Change Requires A Public Consultation On The Water Management Model

The spokesperson of Daimiel's Climate Change Roundtable, Benito Moreno, called the media again this Thursday to "request" a public consultation on the water Benito Moreno, spokesperson of Daimiel’s Climate Change Roundtable, has called for a public consultation on the water management model in Ciudad Real. Moreno argues that public management is based on social, environmental and economic benefits for the people, not for multinational corporations. He criticizes the local executive of Leopoldo Sierra for their actions, which he believes are typical of banana democracy. Moreno also criticizes Daimie's Popular Party and government group for not including the privatization of the water service until 2049 in their electoral program. He expressed dissatisfaction that the City Council will use its own funds to repair losses and fears that remodeling the Plaza de España will cost "scandalous amounts" for a municipality that loses over 10,000 million liters per year.

The spokesperson of Daimiel’s Climate Change Roundtable, Benito Moreno, called the media again this Thursday to “request” a public consultation on the water management model “if they really believe in democracy,” he said, referring to the group of the Government. Moreno considers that private management “only seeks benefits” while public management is based on “social, environmental and economic benefits for the people and not for a multinational.”

He attacked the local executive of Leopoldo Sierra whose actions, in his opinion, “are typical of banana democracy.” This is his response to the answer given in the plenary session on Monday where the Councilor for Hydraulic Cycle, Jesús Javier Villar, clarified that the water supply and sanitation service has been outsourced for three decades and, by continuing the same management model, not included in the electoral program.

For Benito Moreno, “the future of climate and water is more uncertain than before, and Daimiel did not vote to privatize this important service.” In this sense, he asked the Government group to tell “the truth to the people and let them decide on things that directly affect them, especially if we are talking about water that will live and in 25 years.”

Moreno attacked “Daimiel’s Popular Party and the government group because they did not include this privatization until 2049 in their electoral program.” And he rejected that “no kind of audit has been done in the management of the water service, nor has there been a technical report on the suitability of privatization or not, nor precedents for privatization for 25 years.” Based on these assessments, Moreno believes that the municipal Executive “acted behind the neighborhood and hid the objectives” until last October.

According to his data, Moreno showed “insult” that the City Council will allocate “70,000 euros of its own funds to repair the losses.” And he fears that remodeling the Plaza de España will cost “scandalous amounts for a municipality that loses more than 10,000 million liters per year.”
