Where good news shines Colorado Mesa University men's basketball coach Mike DeGeorge has accepted a position as the new coach at NCAA Division I Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. DeGeorge, who compiled a record of 141-43 in six seasons and led the team to the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of the last five seasons, led the Mavericks to three regular-season titles and two RMAC tournament titles. Cal Poly, a member of the Big West Conference, is currently 4-28 overall and 0-20 in the conference.

One of the best coaches in the RMAC is making a move to Division I.

Colorado Mesa University men's basketball coach Mike DeGeorge announced his resignation Tuesday and accepted an offer to become the new coach at NCAA Division I Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

DeGeorge compiled a record of 141-43 in six seasons and led the program to the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of the last five seasons. He led the Mavericks to three regular-season titles and two RMAC tournament titles.

The Mavericks also had their only Sweet 16 appearances in 2022 and 2024.

Cal Poly is a member of the Big West Conference and is coming off a season in which it went 4-28 overall and 0-20 in the conference.
