Second $5M claim filed against Mesa over errant golf ball
Ricocheting golf balls apparently are maiming players at the city-owned Dobson Ranch Golf Course in southwest Mesa. The city-owned Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona, has received a $5 million claim for an injury that a golfer claims he sustained at the course. The claim alleges that Kelsey Olson was hit by a golf ball that ricocheted off a pole and ricocheated back into the hitting bay and struck Olson's left eye. This is the second time this year that the city has received such a notice of claim. The city is currently investigating the latest claim. Prior to this incident, an identical incident occurred at the Dobson ranch Golf Club in 2026, resulting in serious injury to another golfer through the same ricochet mechanism. The attorney for Olson, Eduardo Parra, blames the city and the golf course operator Paradigm Golf Group for the mishap.
